New Delhi | May 20th

I am highly glad to write this post as it fills my heart with the childhood memoirs. It leaves me in sheer reminiscence of the gone-by days – of the toys, the fun activities, the games I used to play with my pals. I feel fortunate enough to believe that our childhood belonged to an era where there was no or minimal impact of Internet and TV on our lives!

Getting back to the matter… All the way while travelling to the launch event venue, curiosity was sailing its boat across my mind! I was damn inquisitive to know about the WonderBoxx!

On arriving, flurry of art and creativity engrossed my senses with hoopla of colourful crafty stuff, story books, stickers, decor material, and so on. In a short while of exploring the vivid environs I found the adorable hoardings displaying the product mascot – “dinosaurs” as the most striking.

Unbox Imagination with WonderBoxx...

Then there was a peculiar looking book that grabbed almost everybody’s attention. Titled as “The Hole”, the book is designed with a small hollowness right from the cover page till the end. The unusual thing is that the story in this book is weaved around this hole and the pivotal character, i.e. a mouse! I personally liked the book and felt that more similar concepts must come up to make the young ones concentrate on visuals to comprehend stories.

Marvel Minds behind WonderBoxx...

Co-founders of the product - Parita Parekh (Brown University, USA) and Deepanshu Arora (IIT, Kanpur) said, “WonderBoxx takes the child on a new inspiring journey of imagination and creativity, every month. We have created WonderBoxx through a design-propelled process that ensures that the product is child-driven and stimulates action and enquiry.

To ensure that children develop the attributes of a lifelong learner such as curious, imaginative, adventurous, intuitive, perceptive and playful and a grounded creative worldview, our Boxxes are designed to work in continuum to promote on-going investigation and exploration.”

Words from Parita…
  • The product originates from an intensive research and design process of 2 ½ months.
  • The product design head, Amit Gudadhe’s applied efforts ensure WonderBoxx to be a real solution and pre-school concept deriving different creative ideas among the kids.
  • Articulating the comprehensible creation required observing kids very closely; bringing the full-filing look-and-feel of the product by significantly addressing the colour and the theme.
  • WonderBoxx has been a sure shot hit among the children in the Ahmedabad International School in Gujarat.
  • Currently the product does not cater to the disabled young ones. Though a special boxx may be released in future!
  • WonderBoxx is easily available online over Flipkart and Amazon.

From the Panel of Experts…

It was extremely inspiring to see the panel around.

Words from Kenneth Wong (Chair of Education Department at Brown University, Part of Advisory board at WonderBoxx)…

“Play is the best form of learning. A child makes sense of the outside world using all five senses. Play employs all five senses, and hence is much more fun than academics that tap into a maximum of two – sight and sound.

However, it is kind of a difficult task to break down each learning area into fun activities for the kids to do. Also, the best form of learning happens when the child has independence in terms of thought process and also the opportunity to act upon the material at hand. This is precisely where WonderBoxx comes in.”

Manish Jain (IIT Kanpur Alumnus and Toy Design Expert)…

Rendezvous with Manish just reminded me of the famous Bollywood flick “3 Idiots”… and especially the character played by Aamir Khan – “Rancho”. Manish himself told that he was one man who was known as “Rancho of IIT Kanpur”…

Being associated with the IT sector, he has spent almost around 10 long years in the US. However, his association with Arvind Gupta (popular Indian toy inventor and populariser of science) and designing toys actually gratifies him. His incredible thoughts and prowess of creating toys with scientific logic just amazed me!

He has been engaged in designing toys that can be created out of readily available material thereby inducing fun and creativity in children.

He wishes that the gen-next must ponder about the facts such as...
“What makes our Earth rotate? ;
Why zero-shadow moment can be experienced in city like Pune but not in Delhi? ;
What causes day and night? ; and further so…”

I couldn’t stop praising when he told about his son who is probably in his pre-teens and designed a transformer machine – a Robot-cum-Car. Inspired by the Hollywood movie “Transformers”, the genius boy has created the brilliant device – it constitutes of 1500 parts and exhibits 110 manual transitional movements, transforming robot into car and vice-versa. Well, isn't that amazing!

Priya Kuriyan (NID Alumnus and Renowned Illustrator)…

Priya’s creation “Messy Messy Baby” is a visual delight for the toddlers. Being the chief illustrator, she believes that pouring in more colours attract children’s attention. She always intends to illustrate real time characters to provoke the kids relate to them.

Meet My Small Wonder…

WonderBoxx made my little niece really wonder about colours… The little champ was utterly happy to see the box. His action-packed mind was all curious to do all the naughty stuff and got him seriously occupied with the diverse playing material. I could literally see his intellect getting stimulated.

My Lovely Niece Kairav with his WonderBoxx Kit
